Oops…Something to Laugh At
By Jason | November 24, 2008
It’s Monday and that means it’s time to blog…
I have to tell about a funny story, actually an embarrassing story, that happened to me on Sunday. I don’t get embarrassed too easily, but I did this one to myself. I have to share it today just for a good laugh!!!
So I am teaching class on Sunday morning. I teach our seniors this quarter. We are walking through the Bible and we have come up to a lesson on Abraham, Lot, and Sodom and Gomorrah. We have reached the point in the story in which God has told Abraham that He is going to destroy those cities. Two men have gone into the city to tell Lot to get out. Lot invites them into his home. The men of the city are so wicked that they come and surround house demand that the men come outside. At this point let me let the scripture pick it up….
Genesis 19:6-9: Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him and said, “No, my friends. Don’t do this wicked thing. Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.” ”Get out of our way,” they replied. And they said, “This fellow came here as an alien, and now he wants to play the judge! We’ll treat you worse than them.” They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.
Now that is how the Bible reads. I mistakenly changed a word, I guess because of the context of the text. Read it again, the way I said it is in italics.
“Get out of our way,” they replied. And they said, “This fellow came here as an alien, and now he wants to play the judge! We’ll treat you worse than them.” They kept bringing pleasure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.
Yea…I did that. As I said it I was just thinking “oops” and it was all in slow motion to me! I was hoping the class wouldn’t notice. But of course being in a class of seniors they lost it, as did my co-teacher. We had a really good laugh and moved on.
Just thought I would share for a good laugh!
But one thing we did discuss was this man Lot. Lot was living in a city full of sin. He was apparently tolerant of the people there and didn’t really want to leave. We don’t know the full extent of his participation in the city, it’s people, etc., but we do know that he was willing to give his daughters over to a mob of men to have their way with them. The interesting thing is that God spared Lot and his family.
So the question becomes… Do we tolerate sin too much as apparently Lot did? Do we look past too many things in our own society that we shouldn’t tolerate? TV, Movies, Billboards, language used around us, the way people dress, and on and on? How much of it do we tolerate? What do we stand up for? At what point do we say enough is enough? Or is it even our responsibility to say anything at all?
Something to think about…

Good post, I like your writing style! I’ve added http://talkinthewalk.com/ to my feed reader, and will be reading your posts from now on. Just a quick question - did you design your header image yourself, or have it done professionally? If you had it done by a professional, who was it?
